Hey. I bumped the Fantasy Baseball to a secondary page, over here. If your still interested. I feel that I am out of it and am much more concerned with football.

Ok, so the background for the league is as follows:

  • 12 Players
  • $50 a man
  • live draft
  • after 20 moves you pay $1 per move.
  • random draft order
  • last man gets two picks in a row.
  • My team is Tequilla Mockingbirds

So I got last pick in the draft. 12 or 12. All with all the premier running backs taken I didn’t know what to do. The best available was Clinton Portis. I maybe should have went with him, but I hate Washington and think Zorn is going to get fired in a Japanese second. I also could have went with glassman Brian Westbrook who is predicted to have a monster year in this “Wildcat Offense” or as I call it “The Circus Abortion”. At pick 10 I thought I was made in the shade with Frank Gore and Brandon Jacobs on board. I was going to grab both at pick 12 and 13. Instead, I went:

Round 1, Pick 12: Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals- I figured taking the #1 available WR is better than taking the 12th rated RB. Plus the guy is a beast, Kurt Warner can still throw the ball and they are coming off a huge year. I loved Fitz in college so I was happy with this pick. Not to mention many 10 player leagues have him gone in the first round. I was surprised he fell to me, actually.

Round 2, Pick 13: Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions- I went with the same type of strategy with this pick. I kind of wanted a dual threat, twin turbo WR core. I know the Lions blow and they have a rookie QB but they went 0 and fucking 16 last year and CJ was an All-Star so it really doesn’t matter. This guy is going to catch balls and break tackles and out run people because he is a freak of nature.

After a 45 minutes of thinking about my next pick and a few beers in me, I figured I needed some RB to be successful in this league. People started grabbing WRs in a frantic after I rattled their bird cages by taking the top 2 or 3 (depends where you rank Andre Johnson) off the board. My picks were pretty easy actually. The next two picks weren’t necessarily in any order because I was taking them both. Too be honest, I can’t remember which one came out of my mouth first.

Round 3, Pick 36: Joseph Addai, RB, Indianapolis Colts- He was the best RB on board. I had him during his break out year an I was satisfied. He catches balls out of the backfield and running behind that awesome Colts line always helps. I was curious as to why he was rated so low. Last year he was a Top 5 pick. I think I had another steal with this pick.

Round 4, Pick 37: Larry Johnson, RB, Kansas City Chiefs- Another guy I was obsessed with in college. This dude runs hard. I was shocked when he stole Priest Holmes’ job. He was amazing. He’s been injuries and smacking bitches have definitely slowed him down but I took a shot on him and with the 37th overall pick in the draft I didn’t think it was a bad pick. Portis and Westbrook sound a lot better right now.

Another 30 minutes go by, I’ve smoked 3 cigs. I was starting to get drunk. I was so mad when after the top 3 QBs (Brees, Brady and Peyton) left the board the QB I wanted left as well at #4. Philip Rivers went way before it got around to me but that was who I wanted. My ideal draft would have been (with actual best on board): Jacobs, Gore, Owens, Roy E. Williams, Rivers. But I think I did ok in that scheme so far. But Round 5, I was definitely grabbing a solid QB or I was waiting until Round 15 and getting Brady Quinn and just calling it quits.

Round 5, Pick 60: Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers- I think he is probably one of the better quarterbacks in the draft. He was my 5th rated QB and I was not sad grabbing him. Absolutely not sad after seeing him in his first preseason game. I now think I’m going to win the league.

As for my next pick, I have to give more background on the league. We have a WR/RB position so this pick makes more sense knowing that:

Round 6, Pick 61: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Denver Broncos- Ok. I know. I’m a lush. I stayed out late Friday night and didn’t watch the games and didn’t know Moreno got hurt. Fuck me, right? Well, I picked him anyway and I think he is an amazing RB. By far the best rookie RB out there. I needed another 1 or 2 anyway. Plus, he is in Denver’s scheme with a new coach. He’ll be the starter by Week 4 pending injury because everyone knows Correll Buckhalter is too fragile for football.

For this pick, another one of my guys that were rated way higher on my board than the leagues was Anthony Gonzalez. And again, at Pick #10 he was taken. This guy has more of my team than I do.

Round 7, Pick 84: Ted Ginn Jr, WR, Miami Dolphins- I didn’t really like this pick. I just felt he had tremendous upside. He is the #1 over at Miami, I don’t care what any of you say about Camarillo. I think he was an ok pick. Looking back I probably could’ve grabbed a safer choice with Hines Ward, Donald Driver or TJ Who’syourmama.

Round 8, Pick 85: New York Giants Defense- I know, I know. Get off my back. I took a defense too high. This was partly pride kicking in. I saw Pittsburgh and Baltimore leave the board already. I got nervous. I need the Giants defense on my team to enjoy Fantasy Football. I get to root harder for 50% of Giants games because they might win me money. So you may not like the pick but I think the GMen are going to be lights out and with Osi back, I’m probably righter than you. Dick. After hearing that Special Teams counts for the team that you pick, it almost makes me wish I picked the Bears in the 2nd round.

Now the only positions on my starting team needed are Kicker and Tight End. I watched as the good tight ends were leaving the board on the way back to my pick. Tony Gonzalez, Witten, Gates and then the guy I had highlighted that I thought no one even knew, Greg Olson. My sleeper of the draft. This guy runs a 4.4 40 yard dash in full pads. He’s got a new QB that needs a security blanket and he’s making circus catches in practice. The dude can play. So he was taken at pick #9. So I skipped TE and was hoping to get Jeremy Shockey later. My douche bag friend picked him just because he knows that’s my favorite player in the NFL. Asshole.

Round 9, Pick 108: Fred Taylor, RB, New England Patriots- I think this was a solid pick. Fred Taylor could end up being one of my starting RBs. He’s in at New England, Laurence Maroney hasn’t impressed anyone. And does anyone remember what Bellicheck did for Corey Dillon when everyone thought he was washed up? Not to mention Taylor went to his first Pro Bowl last year for Christ’s sake.

Round 10, Pick 109: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Philadelphia Eagles- I think I took Maclin a little too high. He was ranked high and I figured someone would grab him before me so I was nervous. I think he is a stud WR prospect. The only thing is, it’s hard for rookies to make an impact like DeSean Jackson did with the same team last year. Not to mention the Circus Abortion that is happening at their training camp. Plus, I forgot Kevin Curtis is hanging around the Depth Chart still, stealing catches from the well deserving black man. God, why do White People have to be so good at sports?

Round 11, Pick 122: Trent Edwards, QB, Buffalo Bills- Most of the top talent is gone sans a few people that no one liked. Like Donald Brown ranked at 92 overall. I took Edwards because I needed a back up QB for the bye week and I guess people forgot that he is throwing to T.O. and Lee Evans this year as opposed to J.P. Losman who is the QB of my new favorite team, the Las Vegas Locomotives.

Round 12, Pick 123: Dustin Keller, TE, New York Jets- After Shockey left, he was my top rated TE. Which was like 5-7. I don’t remember. This is where I realized that TEs don’t matter though. I mean having Witten is like having another WR but after him, the rest kind of suck. Sure Dallas Clark will play good once in a while. But isn’t he the same as like Heath Miller? Or Vernon Davis? Who went in rounds 14 and 15 respectively. I probably could have grabbed a better talent and went with one of those guys later but I’m happy with this pick. The QB situation looks like they will favor TEs either way. Sanchez probably favors Zac Efron’s tight end better though.

Round 13, Pick 146: Donald Brown, RB, Indianapolis Colts- I figured he was ranked high because the Colts expect him to come in and do damage as a rookie. If he does, he’ll cut into Addai’s playing time. And if he is anything like Adrian Peterson (which he probably isn’t) than he is going to win the starting job through sheer awesomeness. I handcuffed the two because I think I could run for 1,400 yards in that offense. The only player to ever get drafted from UConn made it onto “Team Donte Drink and Drive

Round 14, Pick 147: Earl Bennett, WR, Chicago Bears- Once I saw his name it rang a bell. It was because Jay Cutler and Bennett went to college together at Vanderbuilt. I took a big risk on him. If he doesn’t play, whatever. I’ll drop him for Willis McGahee who went un-drafted in my league. Or even Brett Favre. Who knows. All I know is that if Bennett and Cutler hook up like the college days I’ll be solid

Round 15, Pick 160: Nate Kaeding,K, San Diego Chargers- I took a kicker in the 15th round because they started going and I wanted a solid one. If not, I was going with Lawrence Tynes just to have another Giants player. I didn’t get one and I was pissed. I wanted Eli, Hixon, Jacobs, etc. But they kept getting drafted before the need came up for me. Kaeding was a solid pick as he’s been a solid kicker since he was basically traded with Merriman and Rivers for Eli Manning. Yuck.

Round 16, Pick 161: Chris Henry, WR, Cincinatti Bengals- To cap off the draft with my selections, I went with Chris Henry. The jailhound. I figured I’d end up dropping him anyway. I was hoping someone would send me a trade for him or something. If waivers clear tomorrow and Brett Favre is still available, Henry won’t be on me team any longer.

Bench- OPEN

(Bench spots are open because everyone sucks out there. Shonn Green is getting picked up and I have no shot… Darren McFadden is coming back and I’m going to shoot for him. As well as, Jamaal Charles for insurance on Larry Johnson.)

Remember, my league is stupid only 5 RBs and 6 WRs aloud. That means I need to find a solid 2nd defense for the bye week coming up for the GMen at week 10. I’m 2-5 right now. FML.
